Build Confidence in Patient Conversations: Turning Awareness Into Action
May marks three major health observances—Better Sleep Month, Mental Health Awareness Month, and Women’s Health Month. While each focuses on a different aspect of wellness, they all intersect in one powerful area: airway health.
As a Vivos Integrated Provider (VIP), you know that sleep-disordered breathing impacts far more than rest alone. Fatigue, anxiety, clenching, grinding, snoring, and even relationship strain can often be traced back to undiagnosed or untreated airway issues. But your patients may not know that—yet.
This month, challenge yourself to go beyond the clinical diagnosis and speak to the human experience.
Why Conversations Matter More Than You Think
During our recent Sleep and Airway Health: A Proven Path Comprehensive Program, we watched providers come alive as they practiced the art of connecting symptoms to solutions. What made these conversations powerful wasn’t just the science—it was the way clinicians helped patients feel the connection.
When a patient hears “sleep apnea,” they may think it doesn’t apply to them. But when they hear “your snoring could be why your partner is sleeping in the guest room” or “your fatigue might be more than burnout,” the lights go on.
That’s where true transformation begins.
Clinical Tip of the Week:
Make It Personal. Make It Practical.
When introducing oral appliance therapy, start with quality of life. Lead with the symptoms that already matter to your patient:
“How are your energy levels throughout the day?”
“Have you noticed any changes in your mood, focus, or anxiety?”
“Has anyone told you that you snore—or that you stop breathing while you sleep?”
Once they recognize themselves in the story, the path forward feels not only logical, but essential.
Behind the Scenes: May’s Live Training Recap
This month, dozens of VIPs gathered at The Vivos Institute in Denver for our hands-on training event, Sleep and Airway Health: A Proven Path. Providers participated in:
Live patient assessments and case reviews
Small-group workshops focused on patient communication
Deep clinical dives led by our expert faculty, including
Dr. Susan Sheahan, Dr. Lindsay Williams, and Aaron Stevens, our Director of Airway Intelligence Diagnostics and Clinical Support
The experience was energizing—and the growth was undeniable. VIPs left not only with new tools and knowledge, but with renewed purpose and passion for airway-centered care.
