Dr. Austin Faulk on a Systemic Mindset in Dentistry

This week on Vivos Voices, we visited with Dr. Austin Faulk, a talented dentist and trained Vivos Integrated Provider (VIP).

Dr. Faulk serves the adult population primarily and noticed many commonalities amongst his patients. “I can tell visually when they come in, these patients, that when they started they just looked tired, they just looked down, basically, and now they come into the office and they’re chipper. They come in and have all this energy.”

Many individuals don’t realize before being screened for sleep apnea that sleep can affect every aspect of their lives, from their mood to concentration and their ability to work effectively and positively interact with others. When our body and mind don’t get the rest they deserve, we are forced to compensate and may experience side effects such as confusion, irritability, and headaches. It’s time to breathe new life into your practice and the lives of your patients with Vivos.

The Vivos Method offers an effective solution to mild-to-moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). For many dentists, once they discover this tool, they feel an unshakeable drive to get involved.

“Integrating Vivos has completely changed the way I think about dentistry. I feel like it’s completely changed the way that I speak with my patients,” shared Dr. Faulk. “I also see the benefit in that a lot of our patients recognize that we’re caring for them on a greater level, on a more systemic level.”

“It’s always a goal that I’ve wanted to do is be a whole-health, whole-systemic provider, and this has really allowed me to make that jump.”

So, my name is Austin Faulk. I’m a dentist in Houston, Texas. Um, the practice we have is Montrose DDS. Um, it’s kind of right in the downtown area of Houston. Uh, we primarily are a restorative-based practice. We do Invisalign as well, and within the last year have added Vivos sleep therapy as well. I see mostly adults, and a lot of them complain about just jaw tension, grinding, and clenching that they’re doing at night. And now, since wearing the appliance, multiple patients have told me that the jaw tension is just gone. And they’re already really seeing change even though they’re only a few months into treatment. Um, I can tell visually when they come in, these patients that when they started, they just looked tired. They looked, they just looked down, basically. And now, they come into the office; they’re chipper. They come in. They have all this energy. I see it in their face. They look lighter in general. And I can just tell that they’re sleeping better and really able to be their best self basically, and they’re not bogged down by awful sleep at night. [It] makes me want to keep going deeper in this, and really makes me feel like I’m doing good systemically for patients and not just doing a filling that they need, but really making life changes for them. Ah, so integrating Vivos has completely changed the way I think about dentistry. I feel like it’s completely changed the way that I speak with my patients. I also see the benefit of that a lot of our patients recognize that we’re caring for them on a, on a greater level and a more systemic level, and I think that it really does. It’s always a goal that I’ve wanted to do is be a whole health, whole systemic provider there, and this has really allowed me to, to make that jump from just wanting to do it to feeling like I can take care of it.
