Dr. Lindsey Williams on Giving Her Patients the Chance to Dream Again

This week on Vivos Voices, we visited with Dr. Lindsey Williams, a general dentist practicing sleep. Dr. Williams is a trained Vivos Integrated Provider (VIP) and an instructor for The Vivos Institute.

She began as a general dentist before noticing commonalities amongst her patients: They were complaining of poor sleep or exhaustion during the day.

“I feel like a lot of our population is just chronically fatigued. They come in saying that they, you know, are tired during the day. And it’s hard to decide whether that’s from a structural issue or whether it’s from bad sleep habits, but that’s why we do such important diagnostics.”

With The Vivos System, practitioners gather a complete patient history and instruct the patient to complete an at-home or in-office sleep test in collaboration with their medical colleagues. This is the key to finding out where a patient’s problem is coming from. Sleep tests can tell us a lot about our health with measurements for periods of arousal, REM, deep sleep, light sleep, and more. It can show signs of sleep apnea, periods where an individual stops breathing, and other instances of sleep-disordered breathing (SDB). Once that patient is diagnosed correctly, they can get on a treatment plan that is right for them.

After implementing The Vivos System into her practice, Dr. Williams shared that she “had patients come back that hadn’t dreamt in years, and now they’re dreaming again. I had patients that couldn’t breathe through their nose and now can actually keep their lips closed and their mouth shut on their drive to work in the morning.”

She, along with our many other incredible providers, is changing lives. Help your patients live again with Vivos Therapeutics, Inc.

I’m Dr. Lindsey Williams. I work in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. I’m a general dentist practicing sleep. I’ve hung up my drill about three years ago, and this is all I’m doing with Vivos. But, for Vivos, I am also one of the, uh, instructors at The Vivos Institute. I feel like a lot of the, our population is just chronically fatigued. They come in saying that they, you know, are tired during the day. And it’s hard to decide whether that’s from a structural issue or whether it’s from bad sleep habits, but that’s why we do such important diagnostics and records and home sleep tests, and to try to figure our what their problem is coming from. So I think a lot of our patients come in with complaints of snoring or jaw pain or grinding or even, um, a lot of nasal congestion to where they can’t breathe. This is just a totally new spectrum, right. This is where they come back, and you’ve changed their life. They’re sleeping better. They’re feeling better. I had patients come back that hadn’t dreamt in years, and now they’re dreaming again. I have patients that couldn’t breathe through their nose, and now they can actually keep their lips closed and keep their mouth shut on their drive to work in the morning. So, giving them years back on their life is just so beautiful and so rewarding as, um, as a dentist. It’s been amazing how many lives we have changed alone, just in my little practice in Denver. I’d love for so many more dentists to be able to offer this in their practice and do this across the country. Where I’ve come, and how far I’ve been in this last three years, I’ve grown so much in my knowledge and ability to do this. It’s a steep learning curve, but man, I wouldn’t have changed it for the world. This was life-changing, and I know that this was the path that I was meant to be on to help these patients.
