Rubina Nguyen, DDS
Dr. Rubina Nguyen earned a Bachelors in Science in 1996 from University of Illinois at Chicago and continued on to earn her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2000. Her rigorous dental training also included a postgraduate residency and clinical research at UIC and University of Chicago where she obtained her GPR certificate for advanced training in General Dentistry.
In 2012, along with her husband, Dr. Paul Nguyen (cardiologist), she founded a non-profit organization, S.C.A.R.F. (Sudden Cardiac-death Awareness Research Foundation). S.C.A.R.F. was created in response to an overwhelming need for public education and awareness of sudden cardiac arrest/death. Most people are not aware of the fact that sudden cardiac arrest kills more people annually than many major cancers combined. The mission of S.C.A.R.F. is to raise public awareness about sudden cardiac death, educate healthcare providers, support cardiovascular research, and to educate the next generation of students. She’s currently serving as the director of Mentorship and Career Guidance Program. Each summer, Dr. Nguyen brings in over 40 students to intern under her guidance.
Keeping up with her commitment to advance the mission of S.C.A.R.F., in 2015, Dr. Rubina founded Suburban Dental Sleep Medicine in Elgin to provide FDA-approved treatment for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). OSA is one of the leading causes of arrhythmias that significantly increase risk of sudden cardiac death. Dr. Rubina is board certified in dental sleep medicine and is an active member of American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine.
