“Before, it was just ‘This person needs a crown, this person needs a filling. Let’s just get it done.’ Now, it’s ‘Why do they need this crown? Why do they need this filling?”

Dr. Anisha Patel on Going Above and Beyond for Her Patients

This week on Vivos Voices, we visited with Dr. Anisha Patel, an excellent dentist and passionate Vivos Integrated Provider (VIP).

She described how she has seen a rise in tooth decay, cavities, and dental issues, especially since the pandemic. “I see new patients every single day, and I see patients that are having issues with a lot more rampant decay, especially after the pandemic with wearing masks,” said Dr. Patel. “I think the root cause of it I’m seeing is just minimal maxillary growth, and I feel very passionate about being able to help my patients in a noninvasive way get better sleep and become more healthy.”

The pandemic has been stressful on the entire population. Many individuals lost their jobs and even family members and friends—it’s little wonder that their health has suffered as well. While our mental state can influence our ability to get a good night’s rest, other conditions, such as obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), can also affect our sleep. OSA is a condition that causes the individual affected to repeatedly stop breathing throughout the night, lowering their blood oxygen saturation levels and leading to many undesirable side effects and comorbidities, such as heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. Thankfully, Vivos has a solution.

“Vivos, I have to say, hands-down, has had the most comprehensive support system for any project that I have actually implemented within my office,” shared Dr. Patel. “It’s been an amazing process, and that’s really the reason why I decided to partner with Vivos is because all that support that they had promised that they actually followed through with.”

“Vivos has changed the way that I practice general dentistry, because before, it was just ‘This person needs a crown, this person needs a filling. Let’s just get it done.’ Now, it’s ‘Why do they need this crown? Why do they need this filling? Is it because they have dry mouth? Is it because they’re breathing through their mouths while they’re sleeping? Are there other things I can do?’”

We teach providers how to look beyond the teeth and mouth and holistically treat the patients, improving their overall quality of life. “That’s how I now approach dentistry, not just treating teeth, but I’m treating the whole body as well,” she shared.
