“Now I feel I have a deeper understanding of dentistry.”

Dr. Jessica Shireman on Holistic Dentistry
This week on Vivos Voices, we visited with Dr. Jessica Shireman, a self-described holistic dentist and trained Vivos Integrated Provider (VIP).
Dr. Shireman encountered a common complaint amongst her patient population: chronic fatigue. While many individuals blame it on modern-day hustle culture, a lack of sleep, exhaustion, or otherwise, sleep apnea may be the underlying culprit. “Vivos is an approach to dentistry that goes a bit deeper than most dental offices do,” Dr. Shireman explains.
Before treating patients, she wanted to try out the device for herself. As a sufferer of chronic sinus infections for over 20 years and a tooth grinder, she hoped to solve some of the problems she was facing each day. “Since I wore a DNA appliance for about eight or nine months, it opened my sinuses up so much that I haven’t had a sinus issue since,” she shares.
Vivos Therapeutics, Inc. is an excellent addition for many dentists. It gives them another way to help their patients and make a real difference beyond an individual’s teeth and appearance. “I feel like I have another tool in my tool box in terms of how it’s changed my practice because it gives me explanations for things that I wasn’t really sure were problems before,” says Dr. Shireman. “Now I feel I have a deeper understanding of dentistry.”
My name is Jessica Shireman. I have a holistic practice in Wilmington, North Carolina. In my specific patient population, one of the major issues that Vivos addresses is I see a lot of patients who have chronic fatigue issues, and they don’t have a good understanding of why they have those chronic fatigue issues. Well, a lot of the patients in Vivos appliances have had a lot of, um, pain resolution in terms of just generally. I think that it’s an approach to dentistry that goes a bit deeper than most dental offices do. I was my own patient, and I was actually, I’ve actually been like a tooth grinder, and I’ve had like a sinus infection every month for like 20 years. So, since I wore a DNA appliance for a short period of time, I was probably in one about eight or nine months. It opened my sinuses up so much that I haven’t had a sinus issue since. I feel like I have another tool in my toolbox in terms of how it’s changed my practice because it gives me explanations for things that I wasn’t really sure were problems before, but now I feel like I have a deeper understanding of dentistry.
