Dr. Drew Moore on an Actual Game-Changer
This week on Vivos Voices, we visited with Dr. Moore, a talented periodontist and passionate Vivos Integrated Provider (VIP).
For most of Dr. Moore’s career, his primary focus was surgical procedures, implants, and treating periodontal disease. Through the years, however, his colleagues introduced him to sleep therapy. He became passionate about finding alternative nonsurgical treatments for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). That said, his first exposure to alternative therapies wasn’t successful. “Oral appliance therapy wasn’t doing anything other than changing how [patients] slept in the evening,” he shared. He knew there must be more to the equation: a smarter, more effective tool.
Upon doing research, he found Vivos Therapeutics and decided to attend a seminar hosted by one of his local providers. “[I] realized that it wasn’t just a Band-Aid: It’s an actual modality that’s going to make some changes for people for the better. Once I learned how prevalent it is that people have apnea and things like that, . . . I did the test on myself.”
Dr. Moore wasn’t surprised when he learned that he had sleep apnea. “When I was on active duty in the army, I had to run all the time. I could never breathe through my nose. Everybody said you need to breathe through your nose while you’re running, and I could never do it more than the first few feet. I was always mouth-breathing.” Surprisingly, humans should breathe solely through their noses while running, but underdeveloped orofacial bones and resistance in nasal passages hinder this ability.
“I think it’s a game-changer for the dental profession and the public.”
